What is MSU Interlibrary Loan LENDING?

Interlibrary Loan Lending supplies loans and photocopies of materials owned by the Minnesota State University Mankato Memorial Library to other academic, public, corporate, and specialized libraries. Individuals should consult a librarian at their closest affiliated library if they wish to obtain MSU materials.

If you are a MSU Faculty, Staff Member or Student, please check Interlibrary Loan Services for ILL borrowing information that applies to you. The information below refers to the lending of MSU materials to other libraries only.


How can your library submit a request?

Minnesota State University Mankato ILL accepts requests from other libraries through OCLC, PALS, ALA, and IFLA forms, ARIEL, fax and email, no telephone requests please. No rush service is available. MSU ILL is closed from 12-24-00 to 1-1-01. Requests to ship via FEDERAL EXPRESS will be charged to your library's account number so please include this account number with your request.

What are MSU's ILL LENDING policies?

Photocopies:
Minnesota State University, Mankato, limits copying of interlibrary loaned documents to 50 pages per item. Please consult the MULS union listing to check availability of MSU Mankato's serial holdings. A photocopy of a journal article or a chapter of a book may be requested. The borrower should be aware that photocopied material may be under copyright law. MSU ILL will supply the material in the following formats: paper to paper, microfiche to paper and microfilm to paper.

Loans (or returnables):
Minnesota State University, Mankato's loan period is 28 days. ALL LOANS ARE SUBJECT TO RECALL.

Lost Books:
If your patron has borrowed material through MSU ILL and has lost or misplaced the
item, your library will be responsible for replacement costs. For replacement costs please contact via email @ msuill@mnsu.edu


Who are MSU's participating libraries?

Minnesota State University, Mankato, is a participant with OCLC, LVIS, MINITEX, MULS, MnSCU/PALS and SMILE. The MSU, Mankato symbol in OCLC and PALS symbol is MNM. In PALS, the MSU, Mankato symbol is MSU.


Can our library request renewals?

If you have borrowed materials from MSU and need more time, please submit a renewal request via e-mail, OCLC or PALS. Most renewals are granted for 28 days if the renewal request is received prior to the original due date and the material has not been requested by an MSU patron. Please be aware not all renewals will be granted. No renewals on videos. Please submit renewals via the same system you used for the original request.


What does MSU ILL CHARGE for loans/photocopies?

Minnesota State University, Mankato, is a reciprocal lender. There is no charge to Minitex, LVIS and other free suppliers for loans and/or photocopies. If your library lends materials through ILL for a fee, MSU will charge your library a comparable amount ($5 minimum) for loans and/or photocopies. MSU participates in the OCLC IFM billing method.


What are MSU's ILL delivery methods?

If your library can receive ARIEL delivery please supply your ARIEL address. Our usual method of delivery for photocopies is U.S. Mail (first class). Standard delivery for loans is U.S. Mail (library rate). If you choose Fed Ex, please supply your Account Number. Your library will be assessed delivery charges by Federal Express.


What should you include in your library's loan/photocopy requests?

Please include the following information on your loan/photocopy requests:

Title of Book or Journal (no abbreviations, please)
Publisher
Author Name
Article or Chapter Title
Date of Publication
Volume and Issue Number
Page Numbers

Please adhere to the following guidelines for submitting requests:

Submit requests for each item separately
State your willingness to pay costs (and limits)
Include complete mailing/invoice address on each request
Request preferred delivery method for loans if other than U.S. Mail
