The Center for Children's / Young Adult Books (CCYAB) is an examination collection of books for young readers. Publishers donate current titles to the Center, offering visitors the opportunity to examine new material for potential use in classrooms, libraries, and homes. The CCYAB encompasses easy reading, fiction, and nonfiction books. A single collection houses all books received during the past year. A separate "model" collection includes books from the past five years that have earned positive reviews and older titles listed in standard collection guides. The Center for Children's / Young adult Books (CCYAB) is located on the lower level of Memorial Library, next to the Educational Resource Center.
The CCYAB is a resource for classroom teachers, library media specialists, Minnesota State University faculty and students, public librarians, parents, and anyone interested in new titles for children and young adults. Current and future teachers may use CCYAB sources to plan activities and lessons. Media specialists and children's librarians may find the CCYAB valuable when selecting books to add to their collections. Parents can review new books they may wish to purchase for their children.
Individuals may browse the CCYAB collection at any time during Memorial Library hours. To arrange a class visit, please call 507-389-1564 or e-mail kathy.piehl@mnsu.edu. The CCYAB functions as a reference collection. Books are available for review but must remain in the Center for others to examine. CCYAB books are included in the library's online catalog.
