Mankato Free Press Obituary Index

This Obituary Index includes information about obituaries from the Mankato Free Press and its predecessor newspapers* from: 1869-1879; 1888-1954; 1970-1986. This index is not complete. There are some gaps in the indexing and some time periods (1940-1970) were not fully indexed. If you do not find a name of a Mankato area resident that you expect to find it is still possible an obituary was published in the newspaper.

Annual Genealogy Expo

In addition, the University Archives and Southern Minnesota Historical Center co-organizes the South Central Minnesota Genealogy Expo held biennially at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Expo provides the public an opportunity to attend sessions on how to conduct genealogy research and learn what resources and services are available in area research facilities.
