The Margaret C. Buck collection contains an oral history recording and transcript of an interview conducted by Gary Wheeler with Buck in the summer of 1979. In the interview, Buck recalled her work as a physical education teacher in the Minnesota towns of Plainview, Canby, and Chisholm during the 1940s. During her conversation, she explained the economic conditions, athletic conditions, and the role of teachers during World War II.

Biographical Note:

Margaret C. Buck was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in May 1922. She attended Minneapolis North High School and then graduated from St. Paul's Macalester College in 1944. Following graduation, she began teaching in Plainview, Minnesota. After leaving Plainview, she continued to teach in Canby and Chisholm, Minnesota. In 1950, Buck earned her Master's Degree from the University of Iowa and taught for four years at Wooster College in Wooster, Ohio. She became a faculty member in the Physical Education Department at Mankato State Teachers College in 1953. In 1967, she completed her Ph. D. at the University of Iowa.

Buck retired from Mankato State University in 1990. She died February 18, 2010 in Mankato, Minnesota.
