The Howard M. Nelson collection contains an oral history interview and transcript of an interview conducted between Chuck Erickson and Nelson in the summer of 1979. In the interview, Nelson recalled his roles and responsibilities along with the economic and social expectations of teaching social studies at St. Peter High School during World War II. Besides educating high school students, Nelson taught the United States Navy's V-12 program at Gustavus Adolphus College. The V-12 course aimed to help students prepare for becoming naval officers.
