Sullivan, John F. Oral History Interview, 1977. SMHC Manuscript Collection 196. 1 folder and 1 audio cassette tape.

Abstract:

The John F. Sullivan collection contains an audiocassette and transcribed interview of Sullivan conduction in 1977 by Karin Thiem. In the interview, Sullivan, a podiatrist, recalled Doctors Julian A. Hielscher and Helen Hughes Hielscher of Mankato, Minnesota. Both individuals were doctors. The former served as a medic for the United States Army during World War I, and the later was reportedly the first female physician in Mankato, Minnesota. Sullivan was the nephew of Dr. Helen Hielscher. His mother, a fellow doctor, worked with Dr. Helen Hielscher. The interview contains Sullivan's reminiscences about the work of the Hielschers in Mankato.
