Abstract:

The Bernice Starr Jones collection contains an oral history conducted between Jones and Marcia Mason in 1976, a second oral history conducted between Jones and Karin Thiem in 1977, and newspaper clippings and other related items. In the oral histories, Jones talks about her time as a musician, her involvement with music groups and clubs in Mankato, and her time as director of the Mankato Community Chorus. She also talks about the beginnings of the Mankato Symphony; her involvements with the YWCA, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and DAR; and her travels.

The items related to the Chorus are newspaper clippings, three Messiah musical show programs dated 1956, 1958, and 1960, and two typed copies of press releases for the Chorus’s rehearsals in 1960.
