This collection consists of information about Miss Ella May Fletcher, a schoolteacher and organizer of the Campfire Girls in Mankato, Minnesota. The collection is made up mostly of newspaper clippings by or about Ms. Fletcher, her involvement with the Campfire Girls, and Mankato history. Also included is a letter written by Ms. Fletcher to her students.

Biographical Note:

Ella May Fletcher was born on her family's homestead north of Mankato, Minnesota, in 1874. She was the daughter of Susan Marshman Dyer, one of the first teachers at Mankato Normal School, and Lafayette G. M. Fletcher, a successful Mankato farmer and businessman. Ella May, along with her family, moved to Mankato in 1911. Ella taught in Mankato and Minneapolis schools. She organized the first Camp Fire Girls group in Mankato in 1915, and continued to be active in this organization throughout her life. Ms. Fletcher passed away in Mankato, March 21, 1959.
