Abstract:

The Ignaszewski collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Ignaszewski and Carolyn Mager and David Engen in 2004. In this interview, Ignaszewski talks about his time spent in the Army during World War II. He also talks about his deployment in Corregidor, Phillipines, his work in the Chemical Warfare Service (CWS), and some of his experiences as a prisoner-of-war. He was awarded the Bronze and Silver Stars and also the Purple Heart for his service.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical Note:

Louis Ignaszweski was born in Steven, Minnesota on July 29, 1916. He served in the Army during World War II from 1941-1945. He served in the Chemical Warfare Service (CWS). Ignaszweski was captured and was held by the Japanese as a prisoner of war. He was awarded the Bronze and Silver Stars and also the Purple Heart for his efforts Louis now resides in Easton Minnesota.
