This collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Oliver J. Mulford and Kellian Clink in October 2003. Mulford served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He served in the Pacific in Radar Countermeasures. He was part of the 680th Bomb Squadron-504 Bomb Group (VH). Mulford discusses his training, life on Tinian, as well as the B-29, B-29 super-fortress and flight operations. The collection also includes photographs from his time in the service.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Oliver J. Mulford was born in Newburg, Iowa. In 1943, soon after his high school graduation, he enlisted in the Air Corp. After basic training he was sent to radio and radar mechanics school. His specialty was radar countermeasures. Mulford served in the Pacific as part of the 680th Bomb Squadron-504 Bomb Group (VH) and was stationed on Tinian, Marianna Islands. He served there until the end of the war. Upon his return to the United States he took advantage of the GI Bill and went to college at Central College in Pella, Iowa. He later pursued a Masters and PhD. Mulford married and became a Professor of Management at Minnesota State University, Mankato, from were he is now an emeriti professor.
