Abstract:

The Margaret Pribyl collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Pribyl and Mary Kunelius during the fall of 1987. Pribyl began working as an elementary school teacher at Waterville, Minnesota around 1954 and remained a teacher there until her retirement in 1985. In the interview, Pribyl discussed the areas of change and continuity that she witnessed during her teaching career. She discussed a diverse variety of topics including building self-esteem in children, the use of manipulatives to help educate young learners, the interaction between teachers and the community, and the various forms of kindergarten curriculum that have been advocated throughout her years teaching.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
