Abstract:

The Carlson collection contains information regarding the history of Martin County, Minnesota and the Martin County Historical Society. Included in the collection are newspaper clippings, an inventory of collections at the Martin County Historical Society, and a compilation of historical events in Martin County.

Biographical Note:

Walter W. Carlson was born 8 June 1902. In 1926, he graduated from Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, Indiana. Carlson lived in Triumph, now Trimont, Minnesota. He was an auctioneer in southern Minnesota from 1926 through 1962. Also, he brokered real estate from 1947 through 1962. Besides his employment endeavors, Carlson wrote articles about local history for the Fairmont Daily Sentinel and took an active role in the Martin County Historical Society.

Scope and Content:

The collection contains information regarding the history of Martin County, Minnesota. The collection contains a list, compiled by Carlson, documenting important events in the county's history throughout each month of the year. Furthermore, newspaper clippings provide insight into Carlson's historical research and the county's local history. Additionally, the collection provides information about the Martin County Historical Society that illuminates the society's collections and their history.
