Abstract:

The Wallace Arthur Alcorn collection contains an audiocassette tape, CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Alcorn and James Davlantes during the fall of 1989. During Alcorn’s career, he worked as a teacher, pastor, author, private counselor, and active U.S. Army Chaplain. In the interview, Alcorn discussed his experiences as an educator. He noted the change in the attitudes of students concerning teachers’ knowledge, authority, and roles in various communities. Furthermore, he touched on the increased expectations of teachers and the increased social responsibilities of schools.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
