Abstract:

This collection consists of the records of the South West Retired Teachers Association of Minnesota. This organization is a local chapter of the National Retired Teachers' Association. The collection contains meeting minutes, correspondence, treasurer's reports, and news releases about the Retired Teachers Association.

Historical Note:

In December of 1963, a group of retired teachers met to organize a Mankato Chapter of the National Retired Teachers' Association. The stated purpose of the organization was, and continues to be: 1) to improve the economic, social and civic status of the members 2) to cooperate with the state and national organizations of retired teachers and 3) to work for legislation which will improve the annuities and other benefits of retired teachers. Membership includes retired teachers who are members of the Minnesota Education Association.

This collection contains the records of the South West Retired Teachers Association of Minnesota. Among the records are meeting minutes, correspondence, news releases, and a report by the group's treasurer. The collection covers the years from 1963 until 1993, but not all records from those years are included.
