This collection consists of the transcript of an oral history interview of George Saiki, conducted in two sessions in September 1974 and February 1975, and related items. The interview was done as part of a Blue Earth County Historical Society oral history project involving wholesale and retail businesses in Mankato since 1900. In the interview, Saiki discusses his family life in California, his family's life in Mankato during and after World War II, and his business, the International Chick Sexing Association.

The other items included in the collection are photocopies of newspaper clippings relating to the chick sexing business, and a page from the Congressional Record of 1972, which discusses Japanese-Americans in Minnesota.

Biographical Note:

George Saiki was born in Fresno, California, August 30, 1919. He is the son of Rokuro Saili (1877 - 1940) and Mine Saiki (1884 - 1940), both of Hagi, Yamaguchi Ken, Japan. George is one of six children in his family. In 1946, George married Emi Tapsuichi Yokoyama in Minneapolis. They moved to Mankato and raised a family of four children.
