Abstract:

The collection contains a typed copy of reminiscences by George Griffin written in the fall of 1941. Griffin focused on his numerous jobs. He recalled his youthful occupations and reminisced about working on a threshing crew, being a carpenter, running steam engines, and working in boiler rooms at various factories and mills located in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Griffin's activity with the Baptist Church, membership on the Board of Trustees for Pillsbury Academy, and his positions as Owatonna Assessor and Steele County Auditor during the 1920s and 1930s are mentioned throughout the work.

Biographical Note:

George Griffin was born at Clinton Falls, Minnesota in 1867. He attended the area's local schools and the Pillsbury Academy. Following high school graduation, Griffin attended Curtis Commercial College in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended several correspondence schools. In 1890, he married Bertha Reynolds. The couple had three children: Maurice, Warren, and Ruth. Griffin died on 31 May 1947.
