Abstract:

The Unofficial University Student Publications collection consists of materials produced by students at Minnesota State University, Mankato, beginning in 1926. The collection contains unofficial student publications, which were printed without approval by the university, the student senate, or publications board. These publications did not receive funding from the college or university.

Historical Note:

Student publications have been published at the university since 1888. Several groups of students have published a variety of publications for their peers. The publications are in a newspaper or newsletter format, and offered students an alternative to the official publications, such as The Reporter and The Mankatonian. Six of the eight publications were created in the 1960s, mainly of a political nature. It is unclear how many issues of each publication were published.
