Abstract:

The Video Services collection documents Minnesota State University, Mankato events including commencement ceremonies, lectureships, other university ceremonies and celebrations, as well as other miscellaneous activities. The Videos are in VHS and DVD formats.

Historical Note:

Nearly all of the videos in this collection were filmed by Joe Nechinicky of the Video Production branch of the Minnesota State University ITS Department. The primary mission of the Video Production area is to provide video support for academic related and/or administrative projects. Before 2000, the Video Services Unit was part of Library Services.

Scope and Content:

Most of the videos were produced by the Minnesota State University, Mankato ITS department. Other videos were recorded under special circumstances and then collected with the others. In addition, some tapes were produced by a private production company, most especially in the case of certain commencement videos. Some tapes are edited and some are just raw footage. Others consist of one steady shot of a particular lecture or other university-related event and due to the structure and self-explanatory nature of the events they show, those videos never needed any editing. Unless noted, these series are arranged alphabetically.

Commencement: This series consists of videos of commencement ceremonies for Minnesota State University, Mankato, some fully edited and some raw footage, starting in 1994. This series is arranged in chronological order.

Miscellaneous Lectures: This series consists of videos of university-hosted or -sponsored lectures, academic conferences, panel discussions, or related KMSU interviews. Lecture series and other related groupings of events in this series are the Douglas R. Moore lectureships, Kessel Peace lectures, Pathways to Peace events

Q-7 Lectures: Numerous lecturers contributed to the Q-7 Worlds of Thought program. Videos include, but are not limited to, scholarly presentations, brown bag lunch discussions, meetings, and panel discussions. Also included are radio interviews with some of the lecturers.

University ceremonies and celebrations (non-commencement): This series consists of videos of Minnesota State University ceremonies and celebrations other than commencements. These include award banquets; university president convocations and inaugurations; employee recognition banquets; campus dedications; celebrations for gifts received by the university; as well as other events.

Miscellaneous: This series consists of videos that do not easily fit into any of the first three series. Among these are videos on the remodeling of Memorial Library, the Rube Goldberg Science Fair Competition, Brown Bag Lunches, a few oral histories with emeriti, and other miscellaneous events.

Restrictions:

There are no restrictions on use of this collection for research purposes. The researcher assumes full responsibility for observing all copyright, property and libel laws as they apply.
