The University Archives and Southern Minnesota Historical Center has undertaken the task of digitizing our photograph and negative collections. Containing thousands of images, these collections are considerably valuable to researchers, genealogists, Minnesota State University, and the community. Digitization also preserves the images in an enduring medium.
Though largely an untapped resource at present, we are providing online access through this website so the value of these collections can be fully realized. Please check back often for updates on the progress of this project.
MSU photographs in the Minnesota Digital Library
The Minnesota Digital Library Coalition was created in an effort to provide online access to the numerous photograph collections housed in various historical centers throughout the State of Minnesota. Daardi Sizemore, Archivist and Special Collections librarian, and Joan Roca, Dean of Library Services, are currently members of the steering committee of the digital library.
The initial project of the coalition, entitled Reflections, contains scanned photographs taken prior to 1909 and was relased to the public in the fall of 2006. The Archives partipated in this project by submitting 51 digital images from our own collections. The Minnesota Digital Library is currently conducting Phase II of the Reflections Project, which seeks to add an additional 4,000 photographs.
