Most popular Federal Government Documents:

Government Documents Usage at Minnesota State University, Mankato

Most Browsed Government Documents

List of 263 federal documents used 15 or more times within the library during the past 5 years (January 1, 1998 to May 2, 2003)

Most Circulated Government Documents

List of 402 federal documents that have been checked out from the library 15 or more times during the past 5 years (January 1, 1998 to May 5, 2003)

These lists were generated from MSU's PALS Library Catalog. They were useful for identifying the types of government documents our patrons are using; identifying older, high-use documents that, in some cases, should have been removed/replaced years ago; and for establishing priority areas as we build and catalog an electronic collection of federal government documents.

I don't know whether the lists serve any purpose outside MSU's library, but I am posting them on the web in case other government documents librarians are interested in viewing them.(send me an e-mail: mark.mccullough@mnsu.edu if you do find the lists useful, interesting, etc.)

Notes:

  • Use counts/studies have lots of drawbacks - this one is no different
  • Lists reflect counts by item, not title (no attempt was made to consolidate counts for multiple copies)
  • Lists reflect printed federal government documents only
  • Some government documents are kept in other collections (reference, ready reference, periodicals) within our library. Usage information for these materials was not collected
  • The lists have typographical errors
