Library - Mission & Goals

Mission Statement

Library services supports the curriculum of Minnesota State University, Mankato, by providing students, faculty, and staff with information resources, access to information through traditional and evolving technologies, and instruction in their effective use. A secondary mission is to serve as a regional information center for residents of southern Minnesota.

Library-Wide Goals

In order to fulfill this mission, the staff of Library Services will achieve the following goals:

1. Support the strategic priorities of the University in providing services and resources for a culturally rich and diverse campus community
2. Develop and maintain appropriate collections of print, non-print, and electronic resources in support of ongoing University curriculum.
3. Improve access to information resources through the use of traditional and evolving technologies.
4. Educate users in the identification, location, evaluation, and use of information resources.
5. Promote Library staff development.
6. Maximize the use of resources available to the library.
7. Support freedom of access to information.
8. Protect the privacyof Library users.
9. Promote the Library and its services.
10. Foster a healthy work environment.
11. Seek supplemental funding to support Library services and information technology.
12. Assess services and resources to enhance the Library's ability to meet its mission and goals.
    
    

Library Services -- Focused Goals for FY08

In order to fulfill this mission, the staff of Library Services will achieve the following goals:

1. Establish and strengthen a Diversity and ADA Team in Library Services that will address diversity issues in services, collections, and staffing
2. Continue strong participation of Library Services in the Distance Learning Task Force and improve support of programs in Extended Learning
3. Participate in activities related to the Program Review for Library Services and contribute to the HLC Accreditation process for the University
4. Improve communication processes within Library Services and with the University community
5. Continue assessment and planning activities related to our services, collections, and space
6. Develop and strengthen partnerships around the state (i.e., MnPALS with the MnSCU/PALS libraries; Minnesota Digital Library with other libraries, museums and historical societies; MAGNOLIA – with St. Cloud State, Winona State University, and the University of Minnesota; and MINITEX)
